Compression Therapy

Compression therapy is an important and conservative method used for the prevention and in the treatment of vein disorders.  This method uses compression stockings that are specialized hosiery products designed to improve blood circulation in legs.  They are mainly used for preventative and recovery purposes.  Preventative use applies to people who spend long periods of time standing at work.  Recovery use applies to people who have been treated with sclerotherapy or venous ablation procedure.

Compression stockings are an easy, inexpensive way to help with varicose veins as these stockings are constructed to reduce the pooling of the blood in your legs.  Unlike traditional dress stockings, compression stockings use stronger elastics, which apply the most pressure around the ankle and less pressure as they go up the leg.  This special design helps to increase pressure in the arteries that causes more blood to flow back to the heart.  Although wearing compression stockings will not eliminate varicose veins, they can help to relieve a variety of symptoms including swelling, aching, and heaviness.
